What is Ed Tech Day?
Ed Tech Day volunteers help educators and community volunteers enrich the lives of children by improving access to modern computer technology. The program sets up computer labs for educational use, installs or configures reliable networks, servers and installs other types of technology.
Since its inception in 2004, Ed Tech Day has helped young people at more than 80 public and private schools and community centers in the WNY area. "Computer technology is essential to education today as blackboard and chalk were 100 years ago," said Doug Torre, Vice President of Information Technology at the Catholic Health System and founder of Ed Tech Day. "This is a great way for IT professionals to give back to the community in a very meaningful way," he added. Ed Tech Day is coordinated by its newly formed Board of Directors, which consists of volunteers who have been part of the program since its inception. They have the passion to see this day succeed and volunteer their time to make sure it does.
"Words cannot express the gratitude that St. Leo the Great School has for the work donated by Ed Tech Day over the past two years. As many know, Catholic schools often have to use very creative planning to fund the various work needed in their Tech labs from year to year. From equipment to programming and repair, Ed Tech Day has always been there to donate equipment and work in our lab every summer ensuring that our teachers and children have what they need to integrate technology into the classrooms every day." ~ Carol Kraus, Principal St Leo the Great School
